About Pilates.

Pilates is for EVERYONE! Pilates exercises strengthen the core muscles of the body including the abdominal and postural muscles. Students increase balance and control of the body as they lengthen the spine, tone muscles, and enhance flexibility and mobility. What makes Pilates so unique is that its exercises are designed to tone and lengthen muscles, but you will also feel more relaxed after you work out.

Pilates can be used to help decrease chronic pain or stress, improve scoliosis, relieve excess tension, continually strengthen muscles that have weakened in the age of handheld devices, continue rehabilitating injuries post-physical therapy, as a cross-training programs for dancers and athletes, it is for people at any age. The list is endless. Pilates is exercise for a lifetime. It’s not a trend but a philosophy you can take into your life that will help lift your spirit because you are getting to know your own body more intimately.

What to expect.

Susan brings a fresh understanding of Pilates to the Dayton area. She is here as a witness to the changes you see and feel in your body. Classes at Present Body Pilates  will incorporate the Pilates Reformer, Tower, Wunda Chair, Arc, and Matwork. A multitude of props help clients access specific lines of fascia, the webbing of the body that connects everything to everything. Each workout is designed to meet the student’s specific needs. All exercises are taught and performed with biomechanically safe body alignment.

Marie-José Blom describes the movement experience as a working IN before working OUT. This idea impacted Susan as a teacher. Clients are encouraged to think deeply about how the body moves to help them find their strength and move with less pain. Susan's "work-ins" are something clients can take out of the studio and apply it to their every day.  Susan makes sure students slow down for their workouts to enjoy taking time with their Present Body.
